In 80s, Joan Crous, from a small town in Catalunya and passionate with inventions created one velocipede. He named JOACRO.
His workshop was his house. It was not too big, but with his oven was enought to mould the steel to make the frame and other bike parts.
The characteristics of all velocipedes have a larger front wheel than the rear and direct transmission in the front wheel, so the pedals it be fixed directly to the axle of the wheel and do not require brakes. The reasons to have a big wheel in front are because how much larger the wheel be, farther it could travel with a rotation of the pedals.
Crous in 80's was already innovating: direct transmission liked it, but he did not want the pinion to remain fixed. Then, he designed a system that allowed the pinion to get rid of the transmission of forces when the rider stop pedaling and designed some drum brakes to stop the velocipede when he wants.
*Velocipede: considered the precursor of the bike. The term was coined by the French Nicéphore Niépce in 1818 to describe its version of Laufmaschine or Draisina, which was invented by the German Karl Drais in 1817.
Roger Tuneu, Joan Crous's grandson, always had been fascinated by his grandfather's inventions. What struck him the most was JOACRO, the velocidpede.
It was in 2012 when he started a bike project with 3 other friends. That year was very intense, he won the Spanish MTBO league and he classificated to disput the World Champsionships of MTBO in August of the same year.
But in 30th of June of 2012, when he was training near his home, had an accident that resulted in a severe Cranioencephalic Trauma, with significant physical and cognitive impairments. This accident remove him from the high competition and stopped his professional project.
His doctor said that he could never ride a bicycle again or continue with his ambitious bike project, but Roger didn't know the word imPOSSIBLE and when he could speak again he said that when he returned to riding a bike he would disput the Titan Desert, the toughest MTB race in the world.
Five years later, in May of 2017 makes his dream come true and he started thinking again with a new project to develop a new bike concept and continue with the mission of his grandfather.
Roger Tuneu had a great time in 2018, he lived for a days in the heart of Pyrenees, specifically la Vall Ferrera where he was inspired by the highest mountains in Catalonia to create the wildest mountain bikes for the most demanding riders. Then, he returned to his home, in the west side of Montseny, where he continued working to build a high quality product.
PYRMON name is a mix of two mountain lands, PYRenees where we born and the MONtseny where we are manufacturing our bikes.
Also, the models name's for the rigid and double mountain bike frames comes from the highest mountain of Vall Ferrera and Catalan Pyrenees, La Pica d'Estats (3143m).
Our mission remains the same as JOACRO: breaking theories!
And the way we work is to do it with love, with passion and only for you. That is why we have established three fundamental pillars:
Personalization: Personalization is pointless without knowing the individual, so we like to understand your dreams, hopes, and fears that motivate you to move forward. Our products are uniquely and designed exclusively for each one of you. That is the only way to make sure that your PYRMON is your perfect.
Innovation: The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible, and we are graduated in this. We bet on our potential, to create new things and surprise the most wild and demanding riders.
Performance: We would attract the results we seek, so we test all our products in the most extreme conditions we can imagine, because this is the best way to guarantee the best performance.
We are a team of people that constantly evolves to offer the most exclusive product of the best possible quality, so before appearing on the market, we are sure that our bikes could withstand the most extreme conditions. That's why we were present in the most extrem races in the world.
If you are wondering why in our beginning we paint bicycles in two colors (one on each side) it is because we all have a good side and a very good one. We have chosen the magenta color because it's a Spirituality color that represents us in all the meanings: attitude, innovation, creativity, vitality, joyful, energetic, positive, etc. That is why we let you choose the color that most identifies you.
We started selling bikes in January 2019, so we are a very young brand but with great experience of life, with great lessons learned and we look it forward to sharing great adventures together!
